Static Caravan Recordings are rather chuffed to be able to release a two-track single collaboration between Antony Ryan, of Isan, working here under the name Mugwood, and John Brenton of Landshipping. Released on 7th December on a 5" lathe cut single, download & streaming.

Acclaimed and respected independent label Static Caravan, known for work with Tunng, Hannah Peel and TVAM amongst many others, releases a collaboration between Antony Ryan and John Brenton. Antony has been known for producing sumptuous, intelligent and playful electronica for over 20 years as exactly one half of Isan, who have built their own impressive canon, have remixed the likes of Depeche Mode, and played live across Europe and Asia, supporting the re-invigorated Slowdive earlier in the year. John has worked on various projects including the Gwenno-endorsed Tonfedd Oren, Metrotone, and solo as Landshipping. The pair previously worked on a track "Penguin New Writing", released on a Landshipping single in 1998. The new work came about when Antony posted a new piece on Soundcloud. He recalls, "Very soon, John tagged the piece saying he liked it. I asked him if he would like to add a spoken word narrative, and it quickly transpired that he was thinking the same thing." The piece came together very quickly, with John adding vocals, guitar and ukelele to Antony's mellifluous electronics to become "Lundy, Irish Sea". Antony then used a piece by John as a starting point for "At the Sea's Retreat", augmenting it with found sounds and a range of sonic textures. Lyrically, both are concerned with beaches. "They are interesting places," says John, "places where people allow themselves to be dominated by the elements. We knew instantly that the best home for the tracks would be Static Caravan, and we were so pleased that Geoff agreed."

Isan's most recent album is "Glass Bird Movement" on Morr Music "AM FM etc", a compilation featuring Landshipping, Metrotone & Tonfedd Oren, on Enraptured. Landshipping's ambient-looped "Snowing" on this compilation has become a staple of late-night leftfield Christmas radio playlists.

This is 2 track 77 edition lathe and 4 track CD. 5” lathe cut by Phil Macy.

REVIEWS

"You're on a beach, alone and the sky is grey; that sort of thing. This is by all means a lovely little thing."
